How Can Fever, Breathlessness And Vomiting Be Treated In A Child?

Posted on 3 hours ago
Question: Just wanting to make sure we are doing the right thing.
My two year old was vomiting for 24 hours, once an hour that stopped last night. He is completely out of energy, has been on he couch all day, doesn't want to stand. He has had runny poops but not many, a bit of a cough and no appetite but has eaten a little.

He is drinking some, Pedialite, and soda water, and water. He has only a fever 99.2. His breathing was 47 breaths per min. I feel like we just need to let this run its course but I just want to make sure.Hi is coughing, it seems shallow but a bit painful. Like he needs to get something out.

Brief Answer:

Tylenol, increased fluid intake and monitor breathing!

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

This is most likely a viral infection. Treatment is by replacing fluid and calories loss and managing fever.

I recommend low dose baby tylenol for fever. Encourage him to drink as much as possible so as to avoid dehydration and electrolyte imbalanace.

Should he fail to drink adequately or develops breathing difficulties or the fever goes beyond 101, I recommend you visit the closest urgent room for evaluation and maybe further testing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
