How Can Groin Hernia Be Treated?
Question: I have had a groin hernia now for 3 or 4 years.
It has not bothered me in all that time.
Starting this morning it has become painful.
I'm thinking that is due to the recent coughing and sneezing due to my cold.
Is this something that I need to take care of or is it no big deal?
My grandpa used to wear a truss for his, years ago.

The hernia is about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide.
Protrudes out about 3/4 of an inch.
There is no redness or opening.
The pain is around the whole area.
Pain seems to be subsiding now.
Was bad this morning.
The swelling has not enlarged due to coughing.
Some days it disappears and I look normal.
Maybe one day a month or two months.
Seems odd.
It is soft and I can push it in but it comes right back.

This looks to be muscle strain of the weakened muscles around a hernia as it can be pushed in and comes out.
You can wait and watch but as a precautionary measure, it is always better to be examined by a General Surgeon to know the type of the hernia, size of the opening and to see whether this needs a surgical correction to avoid any possible obstruction and emergency surgery in future.
So I'd suggest getting examined, please.
Also, get treated for the coughing as this can cause further straining and complications.
