How Can Head Lice In A 16-month-old Child Be Managed?

Question: Hi Doctor,
My daughter is 16 months old and is going to day care (crèche). Today we had noticed very small white tiny things in her hair. I have attached 2 images, one of her head and one of a vessel and you can see those things on the wall of the vessel as we took few of them out of her hair.
Please let me know what shall we do. Not sure if these are lice or something else. Please suggest.
Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
This is head lice - dont worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This is head lice. No need to worry.
It is very common in creches.
You need to use Perlice cream rinse.
Wash her hair with normal shampoo and then apply this and leave it for 5 minutes and then wash it off.
Get a head lice comb and comb them off.
You need to repeat the same after a week.
But unless all the kids in the creche are treated - the recurrence chances are high.

Hi Doctor,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
We have applied Perlice cream rinse today but, after the application, the situation doesn't look any different.
We are yet to get a lice comb which we will get probably today as we are not able to find it in nearby shops.
Doesn't Perlice cream removes lice or it just kills them and we have to remove them with lice comb? Please clarify.

Hi Doctor,
Few more queries:
1. We have tried to remove the lice using lice comb as suggested but, they are not coming out in the comb. They are too small to be captured in lice comb. What else can we do to remove them after using Perlice cream as lice comb is not helping us.
2. Perlice cream is for kids only or adults can also use it?
3. Do we as parents have to use something to prevent getting lice from our kid? Basically, I want to know is there a chance of getting lice in our heads from our kid? If yes, what shall we do?
Regards,

Brief Answer:
Suggetions on head lice
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
1. If Perlice cream rinse and lice comb are not helping you - then I suggest you get a dermatology consultation please.
2. Adults also can use it.
3. There is a chance that she can transmit it to you and you inturn to her again. The best way to prevent is treat all the families who's kids are in physical contact with each other which is practically not possible.
