How Can High Blood Sugar Levels Be Treated Despite Being On Volix?
He can take Glycomet gp 3/1000 with strict sugar monitoring. Please see the detailed answer below
Detailed Answer:
Hello, welcome to HealthcareMagic.
I can understand your concern. What is his last HbA1C level and postprandial sugar level? If the HbA1C value is much higher then oral antidiabetics are not much useful. Kindly follow up with the detailed history.
I think your physician already increased dose by adding the tab. Volix. I'd suggest you repeat test after 2 months and check fasting and postprandial level. If again it is increased then we can think to increase the dose or change to another class of antidiabetic drug as per Hba1c level and sugar level.
You can increase the dose of the tab. Glycomet gp to 3/1000 twice a day, if he is having typical symptoms like fatigue, polyuria, polydipsia, after diabetologist consultation as per the sugar level. I'd suggest you monitor sugar level at least thrice a day. Along with that do urine creatinine and fundoscopy examination if not done earlier.
Along with that consult with a dietitian and plan his diet as per a proper diabetic chart. Do regular exercise, limit your calorie intake, take a balanced diet. I think this will clarify your answer.
Thank you. Take care.

Dr. Shyam Kale
Repeat all tests after 2 months. See details.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back.
I can understand your concern. Last HbA1c value was 8.1 which is quite high. If he does not have any symptoms, then I'd suggest you to continue medications as adviced and repeat tests after 2 months including HbA1c. Afterwards we can decide about proper dosage.
Strictly monitor sugar levels. Kindly follow all measures as suggested earlier. I think this will clarify your concern.

It may not be valid reason to discontinue. See details.

Hello and welcome back.
I can understand your concern. Generally frequent urination is not a side effect of tablet volix. So I don't think that this will be a reason to discontinue tab volix.
Causes of frequent urination are urinary tract infection, cystitis, bladder stone, renal infection, benign prostate hyperplasia, diabetes. In your case it may be due to diabetes, But we have to rule out other possibilities. Let me know whether does he has burning micturation, pain in abdomen, blood in urine, fever? Kindly follow up with detailed history.
I'd suggest you to do urine routine, culture sensitivity, ultrasound abdomen and pelvis. Treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition. Strictly monitor sugar level thrice a day. Plan a proper diet chart. I think this will clarify your concern.
