Brief Answer:

Consultation

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

First of all, I like to inform you that obsessive-compulsive disorder with homosexual thoughts is common and affects almost 1% of the population across the globe.

Secondly, like other types of OCD, it is completely treatable and most individuals with it live a normal life after the treatment.

Regarding the treatment, both cognitive behaviour therapy and medications play a significant role. In the mild form of OCD only therapy is enough while for moderate to severe degree of OCD combination approach often yields better results.

Although I am not sure whether you have a mild form of OCD or severe form of OCD I'd like to inform you that following can help you.

1. Exposure and response prevention- Expose yourself to situations which bring your obsessions. Following this do not engage in behaviour which brings relief to your thoughts.

For example, do whatever brings these thoughts and stop doing what relieves you. By doing this over a period of time you will see that there is a decreased intensity of thoughts and behaviour.

2. Utilize your time to all possible extent. Do not leave time for yourself and activities which bring distress to you.

3. Use "STOP TECHNIQUE". This is another effective method of controlling your OCD.

There are some self-help websites for OCD (eg. Getselfhelp.co.uk) and I think they can be of great help to you. I often recommend this website which explains what needs to be done before you see a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes it is true that you are not the only one who is suffering. Since it is well known disease and there is no doubt about your sexual orientation.

Regarding the treating this disease I do not think all can be explained in simple question and answer format. The examples can be used when there is complete detail is available at my end.

In addition explaining each example needs consistent effort and may take hours for each. I do not see this as practical approach.

In my opinion this will be in best interest of you if you can see a doctor (psychiatrist ) in your city. He will explain you everything but after proper evaluation.

This is important as some individuals with OCD have organic brain disorder and they need different form of approach.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:

Please provide your Y BOCS score

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Although proving the treatment is almost never a possibility but even if I try I need to know about the severity of your OCD.

To assess the OCD Y-BOCS is a scale which can measure the severity of OCD. This is self-administered scale and can be completed by any person knowing English.

The scale can be downloaded from http://blog.hawaii.edu/dop/files/2011/08/ybocs.pdf

You are requested to complete it and revert back to me.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
