Brief Answer: biopsy report can confirm it Detailed Answer: Dear, Since you have been on aspirin which is known to cause gastric bleed due to ulceration of the stomach, So it is the stomach ulcer and not the cancer. Your endoscopist must be wanting to be doubly sure that it is not a malignant ulcer and thus has taken the biopsy. the pathological examination of the biopsy specimen will confirm that it is not cancer. The advice is that you have to take full treatment for peptic ulcer disease and you will surely be cured. Dr. J. Ticku

I am hoping they can remove it before it is more problem. They did a biopsy only with the endoscopy, why not remove it then ? I have about 5 days or so till I hear from the pathology. The nodule appears near the top of the duodenum by the stomach, a bit unusual in location and with maybe some mucous irregularity. I have some burning in my throat which has been off and on for sometime, but more of late, especially since the biopsy. I have had dark stool and blood in the stool both at different times. I'm thinking at my age I need colonoscopy too. I guess the nodule could inflame at times and reduce at times, yes ? I stopped taking aspirin recently, I eat pretty healthy food mostly. Can ulcers become nodules ? I thought an ulcer was different. What diagnostic and or treatment followup do you think would be good? Any supplement, food, drink, natural healing advice ? Medical procedural advice ? I think they should have just removed the nodule the first time at endoscopy. I called a cancer hospital to check that they take my insurance and they do. If its bad I want to be in the right Hospital. Thank you for your time XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: Gastric Ulcer Detailed Answer: dear, if the endoscopic biopsy reveals that it was a malignant elision they will definitely go for its removal. it is not only the removal of the nodule or ulcer but partial stomach has also to be removed. if biopsy is non malignant then you need only conservative treatment and you will be cured of your problem. regards, dr. I guess if it is malignant, hopefully not, I will no longer be able to work and will need to make arrangements for my things, even for a recovery. If surgery is needed, Whipple, then how long would I be unable, or ever able, to move about independently ? Does this placement of the nodule present only complete Whipple procedure ? The nodule looks big in the photo, they say 1 cm ? Is it possible it is treatable ? How could they just leave it, it could become malignant, right ? I mean at this point, is the cause of the nodule really significant ? It seems it is big enough to be a problem regardless of its original cause. Anyway I'm feeling this is a big big fight for me and I want to be ready and get all my personal things in order. I'm feeling like I have Months to live. The Hospital I will go to is an advanced surgical procedure cancer hospital and a clinical trials laboratory hospital. It seems surgery is the only real way to effectively fight a malignancy in this area. (City of Hope , Duarte, Ca.) Does the appearance of the nodule present a possible stage one in size and appearance, etc.? What do you think ? Is it possible to survive ? And if so , how long and how much would my life be radically changed by a surgery ? What treatment would you do if it were you ? Recovery time ? Able to move about ? Work again ? I want my dad to know what I can face so I can make arrangements to keep my apartment while I begin treatment, etc., possible surgery. I will need to prepare some personal things and I will need the time I have before surgery , if in fact it is needed. I'm feeling like I have a 50/50 chance it is benign and 50/50 chance of survival if it is not. I feel you have much experience and may know how much of a fight this will be. I want to fight the best way with the most chance of long term survival. I feel I should act quickly to get whatever treatment is best since waiting can only cause more problem. How do you really feel about the pictures and placement ? Prognosis, etc. Looks like I'm going to be out of commission or worse. How long does Pathology really take from biopsy ? I feel knowing can help me prepare with the possibility of little time before a surgery.

Brief Answer: Gastric ulcer Detailed Answer: Dear XXXX, Please don't be panicky. If your nodule is confirmed as malignant it will be removed. You will be as normal as before within one week. You can attend your work as before. Biopsy report should be available within 3 to 4 days depending upon the pathologist how fast he does it. You have posted multiple concerns which is should be best answered after the biopsy reports are out. So please be optimistic and go ahead with your prescribed treatment. Truly, Dr. J. Ticku
