How Can Itchy Bumps And Blisters On The Side Of The Feet Be Treated In An Elderly Person?
Different possible causes
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
There are a number of different causes of generalized itching and she may need to be assessed to find the cause for her.
Some of the most common causes are:
(1) Infection such as scabies or lice, common causes which are easily treated with medication
In scabies, the itching tends to be worse at night
Fungal infections can also cause itching to occur.
(2) Liver or kidney disease can also be associated with intense itching especially liver disease.
Blood tests would be needed to identify these
(3) Allergies
(4) Abnormal levels of thyroid hormone- blood tests would also be needed
(5) There are unfortunately some type of cancer that are associated with intense itching as well.
Though the antihistamine benadryl is generally used to help with itching, the exact reason for her itching needs to be determined because additional treatment is needed.
Physical examination at least, possibly bloods, may be needed.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions.
