How Can Left-sided Pain In The Neck And Upper Back Be Treated?

Question: Hi doctor. For the past days i have this pain on my neck near my back on the left side. Its very painful when i massage the bone is so sore. Its all the way to the middle near the spine. Its gone swollen and has like a bump. What do i do? I took diclofenac and the pain went down but its back again. Wojld i need psyio or an x ray?

Hi ,I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
You have pain in neck and upper back on left side for past few days and now it is swollen.
We have to find the cause of swelling . Is it swelling or just muscles spasm - the treatment will be different for both the conditions. Also please let us know if the swelling is red or if you are having fever.
In case you don't have redness in swelling and fever- start pain killers ,muscle relaxants and physio. Plain x rays may bot reveal much. If the problem persists then I would recommend examination and treatment by an orthopedic surgeon.
