How Can Persistent Fever With Headache Be Treated?
Question: My son of 26 years old started having a fever Friday night.(102.5) He went through the night and through Saturday with a lower grade fever hovering around 100 degrees. He went to the Urgent Care and they checked for strep. He doesn't have any other symptoms other than the fever and a very strong headache. The fever finally broke Sunday with use of ibuprofen. He teaches school and said he seemed fine today until he got home and laid down for a nap. When he woke up the fever was back.
Brief Answer:
I would like to advise a blood total count and Widal test.
Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome to Health care magic,
Since the fever is persisting without any other throat or stomach complaints it is likely to be either typhoid or viral.
I would like to advise a blood total count and Widal test for typhoid.
Meanwhile continue with a Ibuprofen/paracetamol combination--400/500--half tablet four times a day till report comes.
And he should rest till report is received.
Please revert back.
Regards

I apologize if this is a repeat.
My son has had continual headaches and fever. There have been periods throughout the day that he has felt better with ibuprofen. Acetaminophen does not seem to help.
His fever spiked tonight to 102.1. His temporal headache is very intense. No nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
His frequency of urination is every 2 hours and it is dark yellow.
I learned he ate a live cricket in his class Friday on a wager from a student. He called the Poison Control Center to make sure that a pesticide couldn't have been in the cricket. He was advised it was not very likely.
No blood tests for Typhoid yet.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
get his routine urine, Liver function tests and Widal for typhoid done
Detailed Answer:
Hi yes, it is a partial repeat. Please get his routine urine, Liver function tests and Widal for typhoid done.
These tests should reveal the cause.
I don't think eating the live cricket is the cause. It would have got destroyed by the acid in the stomach.
