Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Fever and cough can happen with sinus infection but generally the most common and prominent symptoms other than fever is headache and nose congestion that last more than a few days.

Sinus infection can be viral due to a common cold and does not need antibiotics, it can last a few days, cause fever, headaches and blocked nose and cough and generally goes away in a few days (less than a week). Paracetamol and ibuprofen can be used for pain and also nasal saline solution irrigation 3 times a day to release the nose congestion.

If you have fever or headaches for longer than 3-4 days together with nose congestion or thick yellow-green nose secretion then a bacterial sinus infection can be considered and in this case antibiotics will help release. You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain and do nasal irrigation with saline solution to release nose congestion but you can also take antibiotics like Augmentin for 7 days if you are not allergic to penicillin or doxycycline for 7 days if you are allergic to penicillin.

It is best to see your doctor to confirm the diagnosis and the need for antibiotics and have the proper prescription.

It is generally the contact with viruses and bacteria that causes sinus infection but air condition can make sinus infection more likely or worse due to drying of the nose and throat mucosa and making it more sensitive to infectious agents like viruses and bacteria. it is recommended to keep the air of your room moisturized and drink plenty so to reduce this drying effect of the mucosa and avoid AC as it makes it worse.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
