How Can We Correct My Son Who Is 1 Year 10 Months Has Bow Legs?
Question: My son who is 1 year 10 months has bow legs. One of our relatives noticed it and we are yet to show the doctor. How can we correct this?
Brief Answer:
Bowed legs
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Bowed legs can be normally seen in small children. If calcium and vitamin D are found to be deficient in blood tests, then we can start the child on calcium and vitamin D supplements. Both calcium and vitamin D tend to accumulate in body. If these are given in normal person, these may cause symptoms of overdose. That is why a blood test is required.
Routine exposure to sunlight is a good source of vitamin D and can prevent bowed legs.
For vitamin D supplementation, D-Sol drops in the dose of 4-5 drops per day can be given.
Avoid prolonged standing until the deficiency is rectified.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Is it something to be worried about? If we continue calcium and vitamin D supplements, would that be enough? For how long we can wait before we consult some specialist?
Brief Answer:
Rickets
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
What are his blood calcium and vitamin D levels? These tests will resolve most doubts about severity of deficiency. Calcium and vitamin D supplements are taken according to their levels in blood.
If you dont want to get tested, then I will advise to give calcium and vtamin D supplement once or twice a week for 4 weeks only. Too much of calcium/vitamin D in blood can cause kidney stones and other issues.
It is not an emergency. Visiting a doctor can wait for 2-3 months.
