How Contagious Is Chicken Pox?

My friend has chicken pox and it has been around 9 days since he got infected. However the white blisters started appearing on him around 4 days back. During that period I was with him and we shared food and drinks. I still have not been infected by the chicken pox. I also got vaccinated 2 days back. So far there no symptoms visible. What is the possibility of me getting chicken pox? Any preventive measures that you suggest ?
Less chances of chances of chicken pox.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.
I can understand your concern for chicken pox in your friend thereby any chances of the same in you.
As I can get from your query that you are with your friend since 4 days and your friend started vesicles and eruptions since 4 days. As per the further information you got vaccinated 2 days back as you haven't had chicken pox before.
So according to the complete informations you are exposed since 4 days. But the good part is that you got vaccinated after 2 days of exposure so the chances are present but on the quite lower side.
In chicken pox vaccination the immunity starts after 5th day of vaccination. So a person if exposed after 5th day of vaccination has least or no chance of getting clinically manifested chicken pox. But even if the vaccination time is within 48 hours of exposure then also there are less chances bit not nil. A good part is that even if the clinical manifestations are shown then are quite minimal with least of eruptions after your kind of incidence.
There is not much to be done from your side now. Just take best of nutrition and do not remain empty stomach or fasting as it lowers down the immunity. Ask your friend also to take good nutritious diet and you also must take best nutritious diet as it plays a vital role in immunity.
So if you keep your immunity boosted then there are also least of chances of chicken pox. Do not over strain or take stress as it can also lower down the immunity.
I hope these informations will help you. I will be glad to answer any further queries.
With regards,
