How Does Trazodone Work?

Question: trazodone helps me sleep. but I must DRAG!!! myself out of bed in the morning. the drug also does not begin to wear off until late in the afternoon. how can this drug be an anti-depressant? It has been runningmy life into the ground more than opiates oral or iv but not as much as chrystal-meth it makes me so lethargic, and gives me one big f%#k it attitude.

Trazodone is used for insomnia, depression, alcohol and cocaine withdrawal, migraine prophylaxis etc. Its not a first line drug for depression. SSRIs such as paroxetine , escitalopram should be preferred especially if you are having difficulties tolerating the trazodone. You may discuss these options as alternatives with your doctor.
