How Does Exogenous Growth Hormone Influence Tooth Development?
Question: Dear Dr. Sumra,
I would like to ask further about exogonous hormones effects on wisdom tooth development ( if taken in young teenager ). You mentioned before that anabolic steroids hamper tooth development because it binds to calcitropic hormone protein. Thus anabolic steroids is contraindicted for tooth development.
Is exogonous GROWTH HROMONE also contraindicted in tooth development?
Thanks and Best Regards

Brief Answer:
Growth hormone has positive effect
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Nice to hear you after so long.
Regarding exogenous hormones, i have already discussed earlier effect of both catabolic & anabolic enzymes. Growth hormone always has positive effect on tooth development whether exogenous or endogenous, but effect decreases with chronological age.
hope i answered your query

Thanks Dr. Sumra,
Does growth hormone have effect for wisdom tooth development? Mine erupted around 18.
If it does , this would be problem for me. Because it means the growth hormone treatment i had helped develop the tooth, and tooth is permanent of course as it doesnt renew. Kindly could you advise if during tooth formation there is continous turnover perhaps?

Brief Answer:
Has little effect on tooth development
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Growth hormone progresses growth of all organs including tooth, but its effect is irreversible. Information available regarding turn over is very little.
You needn't worry if your wisdom tooth has erupted, there won't be any problem as such.

Dear Dr. Sumra,
My problem is i had GH treatment before the wisdom teeth erupted....so im worried it helped tooth formation and teeth are permanent - therefore effect of GH on wisdom teeth is permanant effect.
Before eruption, does the tooth 'redevelop' and 'renew' throughout the development stages?
