How Does Oppositional Defiant Disorder Manifest In Adulthood?

Question: I'm wondering about people who were diagnosed with ODD as children. What happens when they grow up? As I understand it, children who are diagnosed with Conduct Disorder can grow into Antisocial Personality Disorder or at least develop antisocial traits but I don't know about children who were diagnosed with ODD. I know a 57-year-old man who shows signs of ODD. He is always considerate of others in ways such as apologizing if he has to take a phone call and is an excellent listener and communicator and can be very personable. However he will not return an answer when it comes to requests and can be very touchy, such as overly sensitive about perceiving something as a demand. He has been through two marriages. From his first marriage he has one son who gets into fights and has had some legal issues. I don't know about this person's childhood other than he says he was abused and neglected but this may have stemmed from his issues and his parents not knowing how to deal with his behavior. ODD was first discovered, or at least identified, in 1980, too late for him as a child. He can keep a job, although he has been let go before, and, from his own reports, is involved with his two younger children from his second marriage. Can you shed any light on this sort of thing? Are they capable of empathy or love?
