How Effective Is HCG 5000 In Infertility Treatment?

Question: Hi,
I am currently under infertility treatment for low sperm count and low sperm motility. I am 40 years old. We are trying IUI treatment. I have a severe gastro issues and cannot take any medicines. The doctor who me and my wife consult suggested me to take to take HCG 5000 by injection. It is 3 months now.
Could you please help me understand if this medicine will help for my situation.
Are there any side effects due to this ? Even minor side effects ?
Should I continue with this injection ?
Are there any other effective medicine in the form of injection ?
Is there a possible cure for this problem?
Will there be a possibility for my wife to conceive naturally ?

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. Your prewash count is 30 million per ml which is normal.

2. Your motility is 40 % which is just less than 50%.

3. Your semen shows infection which needs to be treated by antibiotics.

4. There is no need to take Inj. hCG.

5. Though there are no side effects at this dosage, you don't need it.

6. Considering your age I suggest you go for IVF rather than IUI.

7. Try to improve lifestyle by regular Excercise and diet. Stop smoking and alcohol if you do. This will help

There was an IUI and Semen analysis done on 14-Aug-2014 close to 45 days after I started the HCG injection. Also I took antibiotics for my infection.

I noticed my counts had come down. ( could not attach my report )
Pre wash
count - 18 mil / ml
Active 40 %
Dead 60 %

Post Wash
Count 7 mil / 0.5 ml
Active 90%
Dead 10%

Impression : Oligo astheno teratospermia.

Why was there a drop in sperm count. Did the HCG inj act in a reverse way ?

Is there a connection between spicy food and libido ? Whenever I take spicy food my libido drops.

Are there any means to correct this ?

Hi,

Drop in sperm count is not because of hCG injections.

Your sperm count varies in this range from 10 to 30 million / ml.

There is no connection between spicy food and libido.

This sperm count is difficult to be corrected as it seems to be age related.

You need to go ahead with ICSI procedure

Thanks Doctor, I experience low libido. Are there any medication i can take to correc this problem. Also please let me know the side effect of this. Are there some life style changes i can do to correct this?

There are medicines for low libido but can only be prescribed after examining you.

As you said life style modifications are extremely important.

1. Excercise regularly . Make it regular habit. At least 45 min per day walk is must.

2. Join a gym under a trainer and be regular.

3. Stop smoking and alcohol if you do.

4. Have diet low in fat and sugar. Keep tab on calorie intake.

5. Lead stress free life. Stress is most common reason for libido decrease. If you try reduce or solve matters that cause stress in life you will be more relaxed and libido might improvement.

6. Practice Yoga and Pranayam which reduce stress.

Thanks doctor. Does HCG inj help in improving libido? My libido typically drops when i have a disturbed stomach. How can i take care of this?

Libido is decreased when there are health issues like you mentioned. Try taking antacids available over the counter and see if it gives you relief

You don't need hCG injections as it does not improve libido. Especially by stomach upset.
