Posted on Mon, 21 Sep 2015
Question: Hello Doctor ,
I had faced dandruff problem some months back and had been to a dermatologist and used Ketaknozole based shampoo along with Sebowash.

Now my dandruff problem is all cleared.

But , I also suffered from hairfall because of the dandruff problemand hair density on fore head got considerably reduced.

My doctor had prescribed me "Hair gain 2%" at that time for hair rejuvanuation.

I tried using it for some months continuously but didn't see any appreciable improvement and stopped using it since then.

Is "hair gain 2% " proves good for hair regrowth ?

If not , Please suggest me some effective hair rejuvanuation solution.

Please guide me in this regard.

Thanks ,

Brief Answer:
Androgenetoc alopecia; Minoxidil 5% solution and Oral Finasteride

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query and I noted down your concern.

You seem to be having androgenetic alopecia. It is characterised by hair loss and reduced hair density/ thinning from frontal, mid and vertex part of scalp.
There is usually a positive family history in father, brother or cousins of affected patients.
Minoxidil 5% and oral finasteride are approved remedies for androgenetic alopecia. Treatment is long term. Goal of medical treatment is to arrest further progression and reverse early hair loss therefore earlier the therapy is initiated better the long term results.
The solution which you were using contains minoxidil 2%. This strength of solution is for females and is inadequate for males. Ideally you should be using 5% minoxidil, twice daily as well as oral finasteride.
These are prescription medications and I suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your vicinity for a review and for the needful.
