Brief Answer:
Please follow these simple rules and you can take fiber laxatives.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

I am Dr. Neel Kudchadkar and I will help you.

I can really understand the problem you are in right now.

For starters, let's get all the facts straight.

Elmiron, also known as Pentosan Polysulphate Sodium, is a rather useful medication that helps resolve interstitial cystitis. This drug takes some time to reach it's full potential in helping you with your health problems. Note however that you must take Elmiron strictly on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before OR 2 hours after a meal, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner.
XXXXXXX I have come to understand from the information that you have provided that you were taking Excedrin "extra strength" because this medication is a combination of three separate drugs; paracetamol, aspirin and caffeine. You might want to know that Excedine extra strength contains aspirin; and this acts rather negatively with Elmiron, so... taking Excedrine "extra strength" with Elmiron is definitely "not nice".
XXXXXXX you are absolutely right in saying that you might want a "good" laxative.
And you have a choice of taking "fiber" laxative - commonly known as Polycarbophil.

The problem, XXXXXXX with fiber laxatives is that you were right when you said that the medications would be absorbed by it.

However, there is a solution.

1. Please take your fiber laxative with a full glass of water.
2. Kindly drink another glass of water along with the first.
3. BE CAREFUL and take the fiber laxative at least 2 HOURS BEFORE OR
2 HOURS after taking any medication.
4. Please stop taking Excedrin. Please see a local doctor in a face to face
interview so that you may be examined properly and be prescribed a better
medication for your headaches due to "nerve damage".

Dear XXXXXXX if you would kindly follow these simple suggestions, you'd get better and feel much better about yourself.

I would like to know how you are doing.

Feel free to ask me any question, or voice any lingering doubt in your mind.
