How Fast Can Fibroids Grow? I Had Open Abdominal Surgery

Question: How fast can fibroids grow? I had open abdominal surgery in 2013 to remove a 20cm fibroid at age 37. In September 2018 at age 41 I had keyhole surgery to remove 2 12cm fibroids. A third one was located on an mri but was so small it was unable to be removed. 5 months after the keyhole surgery I’ve started having heavy periods and large clots. I’m concerned the one left behind may have suddenly grown and started causing symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to healthcare magic. I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

There is a great variation in the growth of different fibroids even within the same individual. While some may regress in size, others may increase in size by 9-138% in a period of 6 months. So get a scan done.
The symptoms you have could be due to increase in size of the fibroid. A submucosal fibroid can also cause such symptoms even if it is small in size.
