How Fast Do Pineal Gland Cysts Grow?
Question: How fast do pineal gland cysts grow?
Brief Answer:
The majority don't grow at all.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.
I have read your query.
Pineal gland cysts remain stable in size for long time in the majority of people ( around 85%).
Only a small percentage may grow especially in young people ( the growth is only notable in years of distance).
In older people there may be a decrease in size too.
Pineal gland cysts should be treated only when become symptomatic.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Symptoms that need treatment in case of pineal gland cysts include those related to increased intracranial pressure, gaze paralysis.
Small cysts such as this mentioned by you, usually don't cause symptoms.
However, if increased intracranial pressure is found clinically and by radiological studies, treatment is necessary.
If not supported by MRI, your symptoms are not caused by the cyst.
Discuss with your Doctor for these issues.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
I would explain as follows.

Thankyou.
So pineal cysts take years to grow? Could they grow over the space of 2 months or even 1 month?
I have had 2 detailed MRI’s with XXXXXXX with a week between them.
I am aged 46. Would it be decreasing now?
The neuro unit just told me it’s a 10mm cyst and no treatment. But I’m rather worried in case of growth.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
If they grow it takes a long time to do so.
I think that you should have another MRI after six months or one year to compare it with the last MRI.
For now don't worry about.
Just follow up with your Doctor.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
