How Important Are Surgeries To Treat Squamous Cell Carcinoma For A 98-year-old?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: My 98 year old mother has been diagnosed with squamous cell carsinoma. She had three basal cells surgeries the last two years. She did not have an easy time of it, and is very nervous about having another surgery. How important is it at her age. Also, how fast growing is the cancer.
Brief Answer:
Surgery may lead to complications
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Since your mother's age is 98 years and she is suffering from squamous cell carcinoma I would advise not to go for operation at this age.
Surgery will lead to more complications and supportive therapy is a better option for her.
Please upload/attach her reports to see which is the primary source of cancer and what other parts it has spread to.
Awaiting..

She is living at an Assisted Living and I gave them all the information we received from the dermatologist. They did a biopsy and did say that the cancer was a little deeper than the biopsy showed. The spot on her face is barely noticeable at this point.
I will be going over there, and can get the information from them. It was their nurse that recommended that I get a second opinion because of her age.
They gave me no indication that it has spread. They just noticed it about three months ago.

Brief Answer:
Should have her sugar and BP in the normal range prior to going for surgery, if cancer hasn't spread
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I will advise doing the blood test for random blood sugar and liver function test before going for surgery if it has not spread.
Sugar should be more than 79 and less than 169 mg/dl
Also, her blood pressure should be around 130/80mm of Hg and 2Dechocardiography report should have an ejection fraction of 55 and more.
The electrocardiogram (EKG) should also be normal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
