How Is Chlymydia Transmitted?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: I tested positive for chlymydia. I am a male, and had no symptoms. My doctor put me on the Azithromycin pack (Zithromax) on XXXXXXX 17th. I took the 1000 mg dose with water that day. Then she gave me Doxycycine tablets to take twice a day for 7 days. I took the first doxycycine tablet on XXXXXXX 22. I had unprotected anal receptive sex on XXXXXXX 29th on my 7th day right before taking my last tablet. I was wondering what the chances I infected my new boyfriend were. I'm going to the doctor on Wednesday to get retested for Chlymydia and see what the situation is. I just wanted a professional opinion, and was hoping that after all that time I was no longer contagious.
Brief Answer:
Chances of getting chlamydia from you is remote
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Chlamydia positive in blood means that you have not necessarily having any fresh infection or recent infection. Positive blood test might indicate even an old infection also. Moreover Tablet Azithromycin a single dose itself could eradicate Chlamydia totally. Capsule Doxycyclin had been given to assure the cure in a better way. So your partner getting Chlamydia from you through anal sex is unlikely. So you need not worry much.

Ok. My chances of passing are remote even though I was positive for the rectal swab? Is it true I was most likely not contagious 48 hours after starting medication?
Brief Answer:
Chance remote after a week, not on 48 hours.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Even the rectal swab is positive for Chlamydia, it is better to abstain from sex till the completion of course. But as you had taken Azithromycin statum and also on the last day of Doxycyclin the chances of your partner getting Chlamydia is remote.

I went to the doctor today. I told her about everything. She advised me to come back in 5 weeks to get retested. And to also have my partner tested. So why do some places say chances are remote after 48 hours? However, I had waited a week. I started treatment on XXXXXXX 17th, and didn't have any sexual intercourse until XXXXXXX 29th. Is it possible for me to have Chlymydia in my body, but not be contagious because of the antibiotics? I think I read that the Chlymydia will be in my body for a while, but I won't be contagious the whole time they are there. Is that true? Please answer these questions, Dr. S. XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
Following successfultreatment Chlamydia eliminated
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Unfortunately medicine is not mathematics. Answers from different specialist varies based on their knowledge and experience. So the advice and the supportive measures may have slight variations.
Chlamydia is a bacteria only. It would not persist in the body for long time after the treatment or remain forever like some virus. Following treatment it would be washed out totally from the body and re-infection is possible from the partner if he/she untreated or from other contacts. So as long as the bacteria stays within, the infected individual is contagious.
Don't analyze much. Chlamydia is not a very dangerous disease when compared to so many other STDs and treatable easily.
