Brief Answer: Should be used before 9 weeks only Detailed Answer: Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM. These are the instructions/precautions that I were to advice my patients in my clinic before taking MTP kit which commonly contains drugs used for medical abortion -Mifepristone and misoprostol: 1. Should be used only if the pregnancy is less than 9 weeks 2.It should be administered in 2 steps: STEP 1: Mifepristone (1 tab) to be taken orally on day1 STEP 2: Misoprostol (4 tab) should inserted vaginally on day 4. Follow up to the doctor after 1-2 weeks to make sure of the recovery and abortion is complete. 3. Most importantly as the use of MTP involves lots of risks, the process need to be monitored by a qualified doctor. Vaginal bleeding (a sign of abortion) can last for upto 10 days in some women. If the bleeding is less/more/persistant I were to advice to seek immediate medical attention.Mild cramping, nausea, breast tenderness (in a few) might be associated side effects.
