How Is Ziva Virus Transmitted From A Person To Person?
My Rotarian wife spent 2 weeks in Guatemala with doctors teaching pregnant ladies hygiene. Wife has been back for three weeks and her 5-month-pregnant niece refuses any contact with her until after birth. Comments?
I can think of 2 reasons why she wouldn't want to, pls comment

Hello sir and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. So what you are saying is that your wife's niece refuses contact with your wife for either of the reasons (from my understanding):
+Worried your wife may have contracted some infection or disease from her time spent in Guatemala; that her niece is worried your wife may transmit to her or her baby
+Contempt for her (for some personal reason); and she wouldn't want to deal with the stress of having to communicate with her aunt at least until she is done with her pregnancy
If there is something else I am missing her, or have overlooked please do write back to me and help me to help you sir. If these are the only reasons and you would like to ask me any specific questions in relation to this, then please do.
Best wishes.
The niece is worried about my wife transmitting Ziva virus to her and her unborn child. My wife would not see the niece until after the birth but would like to socialize with the niece's father and mother but niece is worried about transmission through them to her. Niece is in 5th month of pregnancy. We live in BC Canada. My wife travelled with an MD and a midwife in Guatemala, both from this area, and they both have resumed their practices here.
Best to ignore their worries and keep away from them in my opinion
Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.
The most common mode of transmission to humans has found to be a mosquito bite which I am sure you must know about. So if at all there were something to worry about, there would have been an intensive analysis of all individuals travelling from those regions back to the USA and other such countries.
Moreover, even if your wife did have the Zika virus, she would have to be bitten by a mosquito, who would then undergo the entire cycle, and then have find your niece and bite her back which is again unlikely to occur.
In my opinion, there is really nothing you need to worry about, but I am sure her niece is also just not ready to take any chances, as the scare has been quite global, and having a child with microcephaly is a life long commitment.
So although we should try and be more understanding, your wife's niece should also try and educate herself well enough.
In my opinion, you should ignore her worries and also stay away from the family as they would not be very welcoming to your wife, and I am sure no husband would like that.
I hope I have answered your query sir. Please do not hesitate to write to me about anything, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
