How Is Bowel Cancer Diagnosed?
Question:
Dr. XXXXXXX Rommstein, I had the colonoscopy, and some samples were removed from an area of the colon that needed to be remove, and the doctors said those samples were found to be cancerous. A CT scan was done after the colonoscopy, with nothing abnormal found in any organ. A colon resection was done on 9/6 - the margins were clear, but they said the cancerous cells were deep into the colon wall, and 3 of 12 lymph nodes were determined to have signs of cancer. I was released on 9/9, waiting be heal up enough for the recommended radiology and chemotherapy.

Brief Answer:
hi
Detailed Answer:
Hi. Good to hear you again, although it seems like it was worse scenario.
However, it is good that you did colonoscopy and that surgery was done on time, before metastases. True, 3 lymph nodes are affected, and this is stage 3a cancer, but since there are clear margins and I suppose that there are no metastases in liver or lungs, you have a reason to hope for the best, and the best would be complete cure.
However, only after 5 year of remission,we can talk about cure.
At this point, it is important that you recover from the surgery and that you undergo chemoradiotherapy. It will kill remnant cells in lymph nodes and we can hope that there is no distant spreading of tumor cells.
Wish you good recovery.
