Brief Answer:
if a urinary tract infection

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

E coli is a bacteria that lives in the gastrointestinal tract (mostly the intestines) of humans and animals. In most cases, it causes no problems but there are some types/strains that can cause disease such as gastroenteritis (diarrhea and vomiting) and urinary tract infections

Other infections can also occur but they are not as common

In terms of gastroenteritis, this is usually transmitted by using contaminated food or drink, this means that this infection is usually from an external food/drink source

In term of urinary tract infection, it can be self transmitted from the intestines during wiping after urination or during sexual intercourse (reason some women empty their bladders before and after).
In this way, urinary tract infections can be somewhat self transmitted

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
