How Long I Should Wait After Taking Medication For Strep Throat Before I Consult The Doctor Again?

I have taken my fourth pill this morning. I am wondering how long I should wait before seeing the doctor again? I am concerned that the white spots are still there and that I have had no change in symptoms. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you
Probably you should wait two days more before visiting your doctor again.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Strep throat is a bacterial infection, which needs a treatment with antibiotics. Amoxicillin 500 mg, three times a day is a very preferred treatment. The symptoms should improve in 24 to 36 hours from the start of the treatment. So, I suggest you to wait another two days before seeing the doctor again. If you don't have an improvement over this period you should visit your doctor.
Meanwhile, I suggest you:
- Gargle with salty water
- Drink liquids
- Take anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day in case of pain
- Rest

Thank you for your response.
As I said yesterday morning I had no change in my strep throat symptoms. I had aches, nausea, exhaustion and my throat hurt all day yesterday. When I woke up this morning my throat still hurts and I am still feeling unwell. I had a look in my throat and I still have the two white spots in the back of my throat.
I am concerned about the white spots in my throat. I was wondering how long they may take to go away? Do the white spots only show up with strep throat or can they be caused by a virus? Should I wait until tomorrow to see the doctor again or go today?
Thank you for your help.
White spots are usually related to a bacterial infection like strep throat
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The white spots appear only in bacterial infection, usually in strep throat.
They may need a few days to go away, usually 2 or 3 days.
If the symptoms do not improve by tomorrow you can go at your doctor for a physical examination.
Meanwhile, continue following these advice:
- Gargle with salty water
- Take anti inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day.
Take care.

Thank you again for your response. As yesterday progressed I was feeling less tired and achy. I still had soreness in my throat, nausea and the white spots in my throat.
I didn't think I would have a chance to see my doctor today so I was able to see a doctor last night. He told me to continue taking the amoxicillin until it is finished. He said to come back if I get worse or do not feel better when I finish the amoxicillin.
This morning I woke up with only a slight soreness in my throat which is an improvement and again I do not feel exhausted or achy.
I still have some nausea/lack of appetite. When I do get hungry I cannot eat very much and my stomach rolls for a while after I eat. Also, I still have the 2 white spots in my throat. I am glad to see some improvement and I feel better than I did on Sunday and Monday. I was wondering if it may take a few more days for my stomach to return to normal and for the white spots to go away?
Thank you very much for your help.
A few more days are necessary for full recovery.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I would also suggest you to finish the cycle of antibiotics.
You will probably see improvements day by day.
The lack of appetite is due to the infection.
It will take a few more days to return to normal.
If it continues in time you can take vitamin c supplements and also eat vitamin c rich food like lemons.
Meanwhile, I suggest you to drink liquids, eat healthy and rest to give your body the time to recover.
Wishing you a good health.
