How Long After An Abortion Is Pregnancy Advisable?
Question: Hi I had a surgical abortion 6 mths ago with my first pregnancy I was given a pill first than vacuum aspiration. I had no issues after it no bleeding I think was delayed as I had the contraceptive implant in straight away however due to a bad reaction I had it removed a month later I had heavy bleeding for a few days after then returned to normal 25 day cycle. My question is I am now 3 months pregnant again and I am worried about cervical weakness from my surgical procedure due to the short time between it and now getting pregnant again .The procedure is not noted on my file as I chose not to tell the doctor about it so I am worried that cervical weakness maybe an issue during this pregnancy and won't be looked at as there is no record of any previous issues should I be worried that the previous procedure may have done some damage.
Brief Answer:
Pregnancy should be planned after one year.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
Yes,usually we would suggest to plan next pregnancy after one year of abortion.
In your case as you are having early pregnancy cervical weakness maybe there.
But if everything is fine this time you can take support of hormone and take some rest initially and everything will be fine.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck.
Regards

When u say suppprt of hormone I m not sure what that means ? I had a scan at 8 wks and baby was ok all measuring on track . Am I at risk if i dont tell my gynae about the previous procedure I am very anxious about this pregnancy to make sure that all goes well. My first appointment with the obgyn is nt for another 4 weeks when i am 16 weeks if there is an issue would it be too late at that stage to do anything for it .
Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Hello dear,
Sorry for the delay in my response.
You should not worry much about it because your baby is fine at 8 weeks.
But in my opinion you should disclose your previous surgery to your treating doctor,so if she think she may start progesterone or hcg support.
You should not take so much of stress because it is harmful to your baby also.
If your baby is fine and growing properly than you should not worry about previous loss.

I will tell my obgyn at my appointmemt but that is nt until on am 15.5 weeks along. I am now currently 12 weeks my worry is would it be to late to leave it until my 15.5 week appointment to tell them as the baby will be getting bigger over the next few weeks and putting more weight on my cervix. And if there is a weaknes there it might be too late as such at how many weeks would a scan normally be done to check for cervixal weakness if a person has a prior history ?s
Brief Answer:
You can tell that time also.
