How Long After Taking Primolut N Should I Get Periods?
Wait 3 more days/ take doctor'sadvise for proper dose/ get investigated.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have read your query carefully & understand your concern.
You have irregular periods, have tried with Tab. primolut N ,without any bleeding after waiting for 5 days.. so you are worried.
In this context I would suggest few things..
- Woman in fertyle age, it's always better to test for pregnancy before taking hormonal preparation like Primolut N for inducing periods. Because in pregnancy the drug can not induce period, on the other hand, it can cause congenital mal formations in fetus.
- Primolut N raises hormone level in blood sufficiently , to cause a withdrawal effect after stopping the pills.. which leads to bleeding.
One pill a day for two days is a very small dose to raise the hormonal level & cause withdrawal symptoms & bleeding.
* The dosage schedule of the pills is planned by treating gynecologist according to period of amenorrhoea & constitution of the patient.
- The withdrawal bleeding follows any time within 8 days of stopping the pills.
It's only 5 days since you had taken last pill of Promolut N, so you should wait for 3 days more for the withdrawal bleeding to occur.
* * In present condition, I would advise you -
- To wait for 3-4 days for bleeding to occur.
1.- Even if the bleeding starts, consult a gynecologist for investigations/ specific treatment of the irregular periods you have.
2- In case there is no bleeding, get pregnancy test done & consult a gynecologist.
_-If the test is -ve, doctor will suggest needful dose of hormones for you to induce periods after 8 days of stopping the pills.
- In case pregnancy test is + ve,ideally MTP should be done to avoid any fetal abnormality due to primolut N. But you are eager for pregnancy , you can request doctor for continuation with watch out for fetal well being ( as only 2 pills were taken). It will be totally doctor's decision .
3- After the periods you should go through the investigations & treatment of you irregular periods & You will be alright with specific treatment.
I hope the answer has provided you sufficient information & advise. Any follow up query is welcome.

Primolut N is not for emergency contraception.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for the follow up query.
You had taken the Primolut n following unprotected sex with your husband, as an emergency contraceptive.
Again dear , emergency contraceptives are meant to postpone ovulation & avoid pregnancy. It contains high dose of hormones. While,Primolut N contains a low dose of Norehtesrerone ( hormone) which is taken cyclically through out month for regular contraceptive.
So it will not serve as an emergency contraceptive,.
Irregularity of periods may have spontaneous / irregular ovulation..so though the chances are small, you can conceive ( provided there was ovulation at the same time)
You had taken the pills 5 days back & had un proteced sex 1 day before that.. so its hardly 6 days after the sex. Now you have two ways left-
- To wait for periods within 8 days of the Primolut N pills,
- Diagnose pregnancy after 2 weeks of sex by blood HCG testing & abort it if it's +ve ,OR start with proper dose of Primolut N if the test is -ve & induce period.
* Of course to be followed by investigations for menstrual irregularity & specific treatment there after.
* Do not forget to use suitable contraceptive ( with your doctor's advise) ,till you are not prepared for a baby.
Wish you all the best.
I hope, that satisfies you. Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
