Question: my mother has parkinson's disease for last 10 years. the medicine dosage was recently increased. She has hand shivering and her movements are slow. please advise as to how long a normally healthy person with parkinson's disease can leave an active life. she is taking parkinson's specific medicine from a specialist which is 13 tablets daily. Won't such a quantity harm her in future? is this a killer disease?
Brief Answer:
PARKINSON ,S DISEASE
Detailed Answer:
DEAR SIR/MA,AM
HELLO
MY BEST WISHES FOR A SPEEDY RECOVERY TO YOUR MOTHER
I have gone through your mother,s medical history in detail
She is on treatment for parkinson,s disease for last 10 years.
Parkinson,s in itself is not a killer disease .
It is NOT CURABLE , BUT CONTROLLABLE .
A PERSON WITH PARKINSON ,S DISEASE CAN LEAD AN ACTIVE LIFE FOR LONGER PERIODS , may be at suboptimal level.
May i suggest you
1 To continue her regular medications . as advised by neurologist .
2 At times medications need to be increased , as it,s an ongoing ageing disease.
3 Most of these medicines don,t harm the body as these are meant for chronic use
4 Neuro rehabilitation is very much helpful in this disease .
5. You can make some arrangements like WALKER for walking , HANDLES ALONG THE WALL for walking freely at home , HANDLES IN BATHROOM for sittin & standing up
Thanx
Hope this answers your querries
