How Long Can Steroid Creams Be Used For The Effective Treatment Of Eczema?
1> Our doctor had prescribed mild steroid cream (hydrocortisone) for my baby's eczema. We applied for two days and baby has massive improvement on her face. How long can we continue using this steroid cream?
Can we use later when we see some new red rashes?
2> Until last week my baby was pooing 3-4 times a day. Since last two day she is pooing only once. Is this normal? She is taking only breast milk at the moment. She does not like to latch on breast so I express the breast milk and give her by bottle.
3> This morning she had little poo. It was slight greenish with some mucus kind of substance. Is it anything to worry?
4> Since last three days she is sneezing 2-3 times (approx every couple of hours) and also coughing 3-4 times (approx every couple of hours). What this could be?We are regularly checking her nose and suck out any snort. She appears to be breathing normally except few times we notice she take very heavy breathing for few seconds.
5> Hospitals here do not give any vaccines until she turns 8 weeks. Also, she has not got BCG vaccine yet. My husband had TB but was treated completely before I got pregnant. Even I completed latent TB course before I became pregnant. Do you think my baby can have TB?
Sorry for many questions but I am always worried as I am a first time mother after we had very difficult time.
Please reply.
Thanks.
I forgot to mention that baby seems to be feeding well. She takes about 80-90ml of milk about 6 times in 24 hours. She does not have fever. Last we checked her temperature was 36.4 degree C.
Another thing: We use diaper for the baby. She cries every time AFTER doing pee until we change the diaper. But she does not cry after doing poo. We were just wondering whether any irritation happening while doing pee or this is ok. She does not cry at the time of doing pee, but only after doing it. May be she does not like wet diaper but she does not cry after doing a poo. Anything to worry or is it just me?
Thanks
Suggestions on baby's health
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
1. Eczema is a simple skin allergy for which I usually do not advice any steroid creams (though the results are fantastic and immediate). I usually advise only emollients for a period of 6 weeks, please.
2. Exclusively breast fed baby can pass motion 10 times a day or 10 days once also. If the baby is feeding well - do not worry about it.
3. It is normal. Don't worry.
4. Even this is a physiological way of cleaning her airways please. Unless the baby is breathing more than 60 breaths per minute and is in respiratory distress and not able to feed well, you need not worry about a cough and cold. They are self-limiting, please.
5. No. Your baby is not at risk of TB from both of you please.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
