How Long Do Dilitazem Side Effects Take To Subside?
Question: I was having hot cold flashes and bad taste of salt or milk in mouth taking Dilitazem CD since last Oct '13 - I couldn't stand it anymore. So Tuesday it will be two weeks since I quit taking the med - my cardiologist said okay with this - but how long before these side effects stop? Also I am very sensitive to medication - never get headaches so if I do get one - say every couple years even taken an Advil makes me need to lie down - I had all kinds of blood work done in Oct as I went to ER with atrial fib - they took lots of blood and did multiple tests - x-rays- ct scans - heart ultrasound and I was told I was good to go and my cholesterol is good - just had it checked and my carid dr said good. But been almost two weeks and have same side effects but no so severe
Brief Answer:
One month is a reasonable wait
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Ok you had decided to quit on the basis of side effects that occur. You had taken a decision along with the cardiologist. You did the right thing.
However it is reasonable to wait for one month for the side effects to subside after stopping it. It is not common side effects with diltiazem. If the side effects do not subside within the time there coiuld be someother reason for the new symptoms.
Hope this answers.
