How long does the operation take and what stage do you think it is? Will she get through this big operation with her other health conditions
Yes she would definitely get through it.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for query.
Have seen the summary attached by you but biopsy reports are not there so all i can do is guess work.
Surgery is a common treatment for rectal cancer when the cancer is located well above the anus the entire rectal cancer, adjacent normal rectal tissue and surrounding lymph nodes will be removed through an incision made in the lower abdomen. Most people with stage III rectal cancer will be treated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery, As per standard protocol Surgery is usually the main treatment for bowel cancer, and may be combined with chemotherapy, radiotherapy Most likely your mother has grade 3 carcinoma therefore surgery is suggested to her.
Operation usually takes an hour or two and is done in general anaesthesia.Usually The 5-year relative survival rate post surgery for stage IIIA rectal cancers is about 84%. For stage IIIB cancers the survival rate is about 71%, and for stage IIIC cancers the survival rate is about 58%.
Dont worry if general condition of your mother is good then complications are very unlikely.
She would be fine soon surgery after chemo and radiation is standard protocol.
Thank you!

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Ideally even complex operations of brain and kidney also don't last for a day.I think that your surgeon want to say that as she will on anesthesia it would take her 4-6 hours post anesthesia to be normal.
Don't worry dear.Your mother would be fine soon as explained earlier rectal carcinoma is curable even in 3c stage also. As biopsy reports are not there i can't promise you but most likely she would be fine dear.
