How Long Does Tetanus Shot Effect Last?
Question: i took three tetanus toxoid injections last month.this tuesday i was using my tongue cleaner and littlle blood came out of my tongue.i noticed the tongue cleaner had little brown spots.i thought it was rust and cleaned the tongue cleaner immediately.it got cleaned with no brown spot.i did not take tetanus injection as i was told its effect lasts for 6 months.but on saturday i took a tetanus toxoid injection.i dont feel nice in my throat..its like something is there..could i have developed tetanus?

You have taken primary immunization against Tetanus already ( three tetanus toxoid injections last month).Booster dose is required if one get's tetanus prone wound and the last booster was given >10 years earlier. However you have taken booster dose also.
The incubation period of tetanus may be up to several months, but is usually about eight days(average 7–10 days).
You cannot develop Tetanus and neither the symptoms is suggestive of tetanus.
Throat discomfort is probably due to infection of the wound in the tongue and may be relieved with a course of first-line antibiotic.

If you have taken three doses of Inj tetanus toxoid in the schedule like the first and second 6 weeks apart, and the third dose 6 months after the second,immunity against tetanus will remain effective for 10 years and hence the booster dose of Inj Tetanus toxoid is advocated every 10 years.
Erythromycin or Metronidazole is effective against Tetanus bacillus.
Other appropriate antibiotics may be necessary to counter secondary complicating infections.

sir,i did not take tetanus injections like that.i took three injections last month every time i got a cut.last one i took was on 24 july.it was within a gap of one week.should i take the above mentioned medicines and how do i take them and for how much time.i am feeling like there is some wound in my throat.
