How Long Does Xanax Stay In Human System?

Posted on Sat, 16 May 2015
Question: I have taken 45 Xanax in 5 days. I have a urine test in 14 days. I am 5 ft 1 and 150 lbs. I know the half life is very short. I shouldn't have done this, but I did. Please help me to know if I should pass or not, or what I can do, and what my chances are. That's 2 weeks from now. Also, I heard that that higher tolerance you have the quicker the elimination time. Is this correct?

Brief Answer:
Probably you can not pass urine test in 2 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Xanax half life is short around 11hours.But it is plasma level elimination half life.In urine xanax can be detected from 5 days to 1.5 months in different situations.

The time for detecting xanax in the system is dependent upon each individual's metabolism, body mass, age, hydration level, physical activity, health conditions and other factors, making it almost impossible to determine an exact time xanax will show up on a drug test.

You have got right info that higher the tolerance quicker elimination time but it is for plasma level not for urine excretion level.Rather in hevavy user chances are increased that it can be detected in urine for long.

45 xanax (you did not mention the dose) in last 5 days is very high intake. From clinical point of view I think it will take at least 3-4 weeks that it can be cleared from urine. In that case there is not possibility that you can pass the test.

But you may drink lots of water and fruit juices. It will increase your urine excretion rate. By this way you may clear xanax from your body before 2 weeks likely.2 days before your testing stop excess drinking water and fruit juices so your urine can not get diluted and testing lab will not give any remarks about diluted urine and suggest other type of testing.

Hope this answer is helpful, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,

Dr.Chintan Solanki.
