How Long Does A Renal Infection Take To Heal?
Question: I was diagnosed with a renal infection and placed on Cipro for 14 days. I can no longer see blood in my urine but a follow up to my PCP still showed traces of blood in my urine when they did the stick test. The Doctor said not to worry and to come back in 2 weeks to be checked again. Could it take this long for the urine to clear after an infection?
Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns. Since you no longer can see blood in your urine (gross haematuria) then the infection has responded well to the antibiotic treatment . A normal urine analysis can contain up to 3-5 Red blood cells per high power microscopic field. I agree with your doctor that there is no need to worry and follow up after 2 weeks. If the infection recurs after 2 weeks then you should have a urine sample cultured and a sensitivity test done to determine which antibiotic to use. I hope I answered your question. If you don't have any other clarifications then please close the discussion and rate the answer.

So even though the urinalysis still showed blood in my urine, I shouldn't get too nervous about that? As I indicated earlier, I haven't seen any blood in my urine after the 4th day of Cipro. Thank you.
