Question: Hi Doctor,
I had hairline fracture 14 days back during Trekking. The leg got twisted and hence the ankle hairline fracture as analysed by a doctor after Xray scan. So, to the left leg cast is applied for the treatment.

Can we remove it ourselves after 14 days or What is the minimum no. of days one should keep it as it is for hairline fracture?

Brief Answer:
Usually kept for 6 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If you have a hairline fracture of the ankle then the cast is needed for at least 6 weeks. The bones of ankle are weight bearing bones and do take that much time to heal. Also, it is not advisable to remove the cast on your own. You need to consult your orthopedician, get an X-ray done every 3 weeks to monitor the extent of healing taking place and then get the cast removed cronsulting the orthopedician only.
I hope this answers your query.
