How Long Does Bleeding Last After Miscarriage?
I had conceived last time by ovulation injection. But I miscarried in 11 weeks. It was a natural abortion and no d&c was done. I had bleeding for almost a week. Thereafter I had spotting and one off days of bleeding. But I again had bleeding for 3 days from after 18 days after miscarriage. Since then I have not had my periods. It has now been two and half months since I got my periods. I have checked and I am not pregnant. My HCG level is at 1. Is this normal? Should I take drugs to induce periods?
Due to hormonal disturbance.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
During miscarriage hormonal derangements occur in the body and it can take 3 to 4 cycles for the hormonal levels to be regularized and normal ovulation process to start. It is common to have few irregular cycles and delayed cycles after a miscarriage. Since no D&C was done there is no need to worry. The periods are likely to resume in next few months on their own.
Do not take stress. Just give some time(5 to6 months) as the uterus also needs some time for healing as the body undergoes physical, emotional trauma.
Have a healthy nutritious diet.
Do some form of exercise as it increases blood flow to various organs.
Drink lots of water.
You can practice some relaxation techniques as Yoga, Meditation.
You can also get an ultrasound scan done to rule out polycystic ovaries and get serum FSH, LH evaluated to find out any hormonal disturbances. Taking hormonal medicines to induce periods will help in bringing the periods once.

PCOD likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If there is a history of PCOD then the delay in periods could be due to PCOD. In that case you can take hormonal tablets like Norethisterone (Gynaset) 5 mg thrice a day for 5 days after consulting your gynecologist. It will help in bringing the withdrawal bleeding and your periods may resume after that. In case the next cycle is also delayed then do get a proper treatment for PCOD.
Hope my answer is helpful.
