How Long Does Exposed Flesh In The Surgical Site Take To Heal?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Aug 2015
Question: An oral antibiotic as you suggested earlier for the swelling in my fingers after my flexor tendon repair surgery.
The swelling got better and the discharges stopped but the base of the nail and the flesh is exposed. I am not doing anything for that or taking any medications. Do I have to apply any topical antibiotic ointment or see a doctor?
I have some photos that shows it clearly, but I did not see anything that allows me to attach them.

Brief Answer:
You can apply topical antiseptic cream twice a day.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If there is no active discharge or pain or swelling in the area then an infection is not likely. The exposed flesh should gradually heal in 7-10 days. You can keep the area well moisturized with a thin layer of topical antiseptic cream. There is no need to worry.
You can upload the photos in the box provided on the right hand side of this query page.
This will help me in understanding the lesion better.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
The exposed nail will heal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
I have seen the attached image. The exposed nail bed is not a problem. It will heal on its own in next 1-2 weeks. No need to consult a doctor as of now.
Hope my answer is helpful.
