How Long Does Haematoma In Breast Take To Get Cured?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: I was in an auto accident on 1/8/15. I was taken by ambulance to the hospital. I have 4 fractured ribs on the right side a long with a large breast hematoma. I have never had any breast surgeries or implants. How long will it take for this hematoma to go away? It is very painful and when I touch it on the surface it is at least 2 inches in diameter. I am a large breasted woman. My breast is purple, red, and yellow in color. I cannot put any pressure on it because of the amount of pain. I was told to have a mammogram in 2 months. Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Brief Answer:
Hematoma usually disappears after 3-4 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

It depends how much blood it contains. If the hematoma is located in the muscles and fat and do not create large fluid collection, healing process should take 3-4 weeks before it will disappear.
However if there is large blood collection, it can stay there for months. Moreover it can get infected and turn into an abscess. Tenderness, redness, swelling are symptoms which can indicate such large blood collection.

I suggest you to do not wait 2 months. Please consult your doctor and have soft tissues ultrasound. It will tell if there is any fluid collection. And if there is, it should be drained.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
