How Long Does Recovery Of Toe Take After Phalangeal Fracture?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Mar 2016
Question: Hi, I sustained injuries to both feet 2 months ago. I have a broken proximal phalange to 2nd toe left foot which does not appear to be healing at all. I also have a badly bruised talus bone and lots of soft tissue damage to my right foot. I have been in a wheel chair and can now stand for about a minute but still cannot bear an weight or walk without the cast. What is the maximum time for my toe to heal and will I need surgery if it does not heal on its own? Also how long will it take before I can weight bear on my right foot and begin to walk without a cast?

Brief Answer:
Get a new x-rays.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Usually it takes six to eight month for a phalangeal fracture to reunion.

You can put some weight on it after the symptoms subside and radiologic evidence of the union.

So, since you refer that you are still experiencing symptoms, you should have first a x-rays to evaluate healing process.

If no union since 2 months passed, you should consult an Orthopedic surgeon and discus about surgical immobilization.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
