How Long Does Recovery Take From Basal Cell Cancer Of Skin?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Sep 2016
Question: Hi. I have a small lesion that resembles the XXXXXXX cell growths (7) that have been successfully removed by my dermatologist over the past 5 years or so. On a recent visit, she overlooked the lesion which has other less important skin conditions surrounding it. She said "see you in a year." I hesitate to go back to re-show her this lesion. How long can a XXXXXXX cell skin cancer go without attention? Is it okay to wait a year, six months etc? What should I consider doing? Thanks for your advice.

Brief Answer:
Basal Cell Cancer of the skin

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about your doctor over looking a lesion that you suspect to be basal cell CA. I would recommend that you go back and talk to your doctor. As a doctor I know I miss things and I would rather have a patient come back and be open and honest about their health rather than feeling embarrassed about something. It is always better to err on the side of caution. So please make that appointment and not worry about how your doctor may feel but more that you will feel better.

But to answer your question basal cell CA is very slow growing and may stay for over a year without complications other than increase local spread. You can wait 6 months but why would you?

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
