Question : Sir my sis is being diagonised with typoid fever since 5dayz.. She is taking zanocin 200 two times a day precribes for 10"days and azithral 500 twice a day for five dayz. But till now she is having mild fever whole day.. And sometimes temperature is rising high.. But from yesterday she is having loose motion (four to five time a day) which is also a concern.. She is getting too weak.. Please do let us know whether to take any tablt to stop loose motion.. Or any changes in tablets..

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. The medications are correct. However, in typhoid in spite of medication, fever may continue for sometime. You would have to be patient. Apply tepid sponging and give paracetamol if needed. The loose motion is possibly antibiotic associated diarrhea. Give her curd or yogurt since they contain beneficial bacteria. You may also give probiotics like Enterogermina. Give ORS (oral rehydration solution) to make up for the lost fluid and salts. The weakness is not unlikely. Please be patient and wait for her to recover.

Thanks for your valuable guidance.. To fully cure typhoid how many days it requires?? All the medications prescribed by our physician is complete.. (A course of 10 days) But still the fever is persisting.. And also hav a vomiting tendency.. So she is unable to hav full diets.. Does she require further chkups?? And medications?? Please do guide us..

Thanks for writing back. It may take 14-21 days for proper recovery although regaining of health may take a couple of months.

I would insist you to continue the medications (ongoing antibiotics) even beyond the 10 day period. It however calls for further evaluation. Medications may be decided upon based on the findings.
