Question: Sir, I had suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear in Nov'14.
Currently I donot have any pain in the knee and can walk freely at normal pace. How much time generally does it take to completely heal and for me to start jogging ? I had diabetes recently

Brief Answer:
You can start jogging.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A partial tear of cruciate ligament usually heals in 4-6 months depending on the thickness of the tear. It has been almost a year since you had the tear. If there is no pain in walking and climbing stairs then you can start jogging and active running also gradually. Do not overstress your knee at once. Start all these exercises gradually and in moderation.
I hope this answers your query.

In which cases do you think I will be needing a surgery?
While climbing the stairs, I have subcnscious fear that there might be a pain in the knee.

Meanwhile , sometimes when I do differentiate a ligament tear pain and pain that sometimes is induced on account of my muscles being tired due to aggressive walking ?

Brief Answer:
Surgery is not needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If the ligament is healed and the knee joint is stable then no surgery is needed. Surgery is done in more than partial thickness or full thickness tears.
If there is no actual pain in climbing stairs then there is no need to worry. You can use an elastic knee brace while doing exercises for an extra support.
Muscle strengthening exercises will help in reducing all such fears.
Hope my answer is helpful.
