Posted on Tue, 1 Sep 2015
Question: Hello Doctor. I had undergone XXXXXXX BSO 4 weeks ago. I would like to know how long does it take for the internal wounds to heal. I still feel pain on the area which was operated on , left-right-middle of the abdomen area until now, especially after I move around too much. I consider myself active. Is this pain normal? Even after 4 weeks?

Brief Answer:
It takes 6-8 weeks for the internal wounds to heal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

It takes 6-8 weeks for the internal wounds to heal. So it is normal to feel some pain when you move around too much, climb stairs etc. As long as there is no severe pain or fever don't worry. You can take non steroidal anti inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen 400mg twice daily on the days you exert more.
Avoid activities that cause pain. Walking is not a problem. Do regular walking. But Don't life heavy objects. Take multivitamins
You can get back to regular activities after 8 weeks.
I hope this helps.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

okay then. So far I hv not experienced any fever. I stopped taking iron tablets for about 2 weeks because it gave me constipation. Now I am taking only one tablet a day. My Hb level before surgery is 9. How long does it take to get to a good level, like say, 11 or 12. I take chicken liver once a week, and 2 servings of greens everyday, lunch & dinner.
Can Dr recommend a good multivitamin with good absorbption rate.
Thank you Dr Ramadevi Wani.

Brief Answer:
Any multivitamin preparation is okay.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
welcome back.
If you take 3 tablets of iron daily, in a month you can increase the hemoglobin by 2 grams. If you are taking just one tablet daily you will need more time to correct the anemia. Once your hemoglobin comes to normal level, continue iron for atleast 3 months to replenish the stores. In addition to what you are eating, add fish, beans, dry fruits like apricot, prunes in your diet.

Any multivitamin preparation is okay. I am not aware what are available in your country. Just take the one that contains all vitamins ( A,B,C,D,E).

I hope this helps.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

Best wishes,
Dr Rama
