Brief Answer:
Usually 6-8 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
If you have had radio iodine ablation jsut six days ago, you will still be hyperthyroid now. Your doctor would have stopped Carbimazole/Methimazole atleast 7 days prior to the treatment. We generally advice to restart the drug around 7 to 10 days after the radio iodine treatment. It takes 6-8 weeks ( rarely 3 months) for the radio idoine to destroy the thyroid follicular cells. Hence you may expect either thyronormalcy or Hypothyroidism, 6-8 weeks after the treatment day. ( in majority of people, Hypothyroidism develop).

It is advisable to stop the anti thyroid medications 6 weeks after the radio idoine and re check your thyroid functions 2 weeks after stopping those medicatons. If you have developed Hypothyroidism, you will require Thyroxine ( thyroid hormone) replacement for life long.

To answer your question, you may remain Hyper for arond 6-8 weeks after the radio iodine treatment ( rarely upto 3 months)

Binu
