Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to address your query.
According to me we do not know exactly when shin splints will go away. It depends on what's causing them.Individuals heal at different rates & 3 to 6 months is not unusual.
Most importantly do not rush back into your sport. If you start exercising before your shin splints have healed, you may hurt yourself permanently.Continue the supplements as advised by your doctor.
Shin splints are said to be fully healed when-
-Injured leg is as flexible as your other leg.
-Injured leg feels as strong as your other leg.
-You can jog, sprint, and jump without pain.
-X-rays are normal or show any stressfractures have healed
Adequate rest is essential and I were to advise not take up an new no-impact activity such as running/swimming since it might aggravate the present condition.
