How Long Should Aristozyme And Cremaffin Be Taken For Digestion Problem?

default
Posted on Wed, 21 May 2014
Question: Sir,
After the cancer operation of Sigmoid colon (on 23/11/2012) followed by chemotherapy (with CAPOX) and medication with Zeloda capsule along with other medicines (for 8 times from Mid December 2012 till 29 May 2013), I feel fine except the digestive system is not OK. For normal stool, I have to take regularly Aristozyme (one time 5-6 ml each day after night meal and Creamafin plus 2-3 table spoon also after night meal). My questions are; i) how long , I have to tale these medicines; and ii) do they have any side effects due to long term use.

Regards,

Greetings of the day
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

First and foremost I would like to reassure that there are no major side effects associated with long term intake of Aristozyme and Cremaffin Plus.
The major limitation is habit forming and dependence on Cremaffin. Cremaffin is an laxative and promotes softening of stools and smooth evacuation of stools. Many individuals find it difficult to pass stools after discontinuing Cremaffin after long term use.

I would advise you the following which will help in stopping the medication over next couple of months. Slowly decrease the dosage by 1 spoon every week.

1. Ensure good intake of water: Ensuring good intake of water atleast 3 liter a day is very beneficial in ensuring formation of smooth stools.
2. High fibre diet : Ensure 2 serving of vegetable salad everyday and twoc servings of fruits especially citrus fruits. Avoid fruit juices, instead consume whole fruits.
3. Avoid constipating diet: Avoid bread biscuits and products which contain refined wheat flour ( Maida), instead consume whole wheat flour.

I hope this has helped.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
