How Long Should I Continue Synthroid For Thyroid Disorder?

Question: Was on Decissicated Thyroid, for suboptimal hypothyroid. 3.7 was my tsh. I was on it for 6 weeks. Made my head clear, but my stomach sick. I recently came off for 9 days before just now returning to it (2 doses) because I felt so bad. I had wanted to try discontinuing it because I questioned if I needed to commit to thyroid meds for life.
Now I'm being prescribed Synthroid because I'm feeling bad. She said I may not return to optimal levels, at least without higher doses because I stopped my pills.
Do I need it? Will my thyroid bounce back to previous levels if I do not take medicine? If so, how long do I have to suffer off meds until my natural levels return?

Brief Answer:
Synthroid preferred over dessicated thyroid
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
Synthroid is preferred over dessicated thyroid ( armour thyroid). Synthroid is more easy to titrate as well.
Before i could answer further, i would like to know your full thyroid function profile before starting desssicated thyroid. Could you please share the initial pre treatment values of TSH and Free T4. If you have a report, could you attach that ?
Regards

I was at 3.6 or so, before the desscicated was began. I felt unwell before it: foggy head, tired, lack of energy etc. Thyroid problems are had by my sister and uncle, so it is in our family. When taking the dessicated I felt many of the symptoms relieved, but felt nauseous all the time. When I stopped dessicated, I felt better than ever, for about 4 days until I felt like I crashed. I wanted to reactivate my thyroid to see if I really needed it, since I preferred to not be medicated for life. But I have felt much worse upon ceasing the dessicated. Thus, my dilemma. Do I push through the crash until my throid comes back on, and would it be worth it if I didn't feel optimal. Where am I left...
Sorry, she also placed me on testosterone cream. I thought perhaps I would only need the testosterone cream and not the thyroid. But I await your thoughts.
Thank you very much.

Brief Answer:
TSH of 3.6 is normal
Detailed Answer:
Well I was wondering who put you on thyroid medicines when your TSH was just 3.6. That was normal and perfect. I guess by taking thyroid medication you developed hyperthyroidism and related problems. There is no need to take any medicine for a TSH of 3.6

Brief Answer:
Stop and recheck after 6 weeks
Detailed Answer:
Yes if your pretreatment TSH was 3.6, then it is very safe to stop dessicated thyroid. Once you stop this, please repeat TSH and FreeT4 (FT4) after 6 weeks
