How Long Should One Continue Femilon For Endometriosis?
My daughter is on Femilon (oral contraceptive pill) for over a year to treat suspected endometreosis. She is 22 years old. She has found good relief using this OCP tablet. She is currently doing her masters in the UK and in this crucial stage of her life, she feels having a painless period is very important. How long can she be on this treatment? (She has been advised 2-3 years of this treatment.) Although she has adjusted well to this medication, she suddenly seems to have developed thrush like itching in her vagina. Her doctor has prescribed Canestan cream, which doesn't seem to be doing much to help. Could Femilon be a cause for this, and would you suggest something better? Thanks.
Repeat Swab test required
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns about white discharge and OCP .
Following is my reply:
1. Your daughter seems to have developed new strain of antifungal infection that is resistant to canestan hence no relief.
2. Since she is not responding to the earlier medicines i would recommend you to get another swab test for culture and sensitivity to detect the organism.
3. This time she is likely to need oral antifungal medicines. This decision can be taken after seeing the new report only.
4. Femilon is not the reason for this. Let her continue the femilon.
5. After culture and sensitivity report, your doctor is likely to recommend you combination of oral antifungal and vaginal pessaries. Now i cannot prescribe any medicine as it is not required.
I hope your doubt is clarified. Let me know if you wish any other information.
Regards,
Dr. Soumya
Thank you.

Thats what i predicted
Detailed Answer:
Hi
This is what I had predicted previously. I am happy that she is on right treatment.
Raising immunity with regular exercise, more fruits in diet and hygienic food and clean drinking water will help with thrush.
